The Sterling Lindner Davis department store on Euclid Ave. was known for its large Christmas tree.
Downtown Cleveland's Euclid Avenue was once ranked among the largest retail districts in the country. At its peak, several department stores known as the "Big Six" drew thousands of visitors Downtown, especially during the holidays. Among them was Sterling Lindner Davis, which was known for its 50-foot Christmas tree.

Now that was a combination of several big department stores all of which were right around this corner, starting in 1845.
Today this building is mostly vacant except for a few offices on the 5th floor.
There were six big department stores in Downtown Cleveland.
And during the holidays, they were dressed up like it was the North Pole, only colder.
Sterling Lindner claimed to have the largest Christmas tree in the country.
After World War II, people began moving to the suburbs.
And unfortunately, the store didn't follow them.
In 1968, it went out of business.
The following year, Mr.
Lindner's granddaughter, Linda, married Paul McCartney.
But we haven't been able to find out anything about him or his Christmas decorations.
